Bed Bugs Have No One to Bite

Have you been tossing and turning in bed lately? Not being able to get enoughshut eye is your highway to obesity and depression. But before popping any sleep inducing medication into your mouth, let’s first re-examine your favorite nightly habits – they may be responsible for your sleeplessness.

A Whole New World(Wide Web)

Connecting with friends through technology has never been a crime, but ‘Facebooking’ ‘til dawn? That’s another story. The light rays produced by your computer monitor stimulate the brain. Even after you’ve logged off, your mind wouldn’t be quite able to immediately quit fussing about the many tasks and events in your digital life space. So skip late-night surfing andgive yourself time to relax without the nuances of technology.

Active Mind

Staying in bed is futile if you just couldn’t fall asleep, and counting sheep never helped either. When you’ve been tossing and turning for 30 minutes, get out of bed and do something that requires minimal brain power. Watch TV, have a light snack, anything that calms the mind is good.

It’s a Bedroom, Not a Classroom

Not all “relaxing”activities such as reading or writing don’t help you sleep faster. Your body is likely to adapt to the routines you develop, and wouldn’t allow any shut eye time less you’ve finished a few chapters. Whether it’s reading, writing, or drawing – do these activities elsewhere. The bed should be limited to activities concerning sleep and intercourse.

Late Night Fitness

Early morning workouts help keep us alive, alert, and awake for a good couple of hours throughout the day – which is why you should NOT work out at night. Heightening your energy levels before hitting the sack interrupts a good night’s rest. Though this may be your only time to stay fit, this isn’t what the doctor would recommend. Rise and shine earlier instead – it’s both healthier and more invigorating.

Remember that bed bugs were created for a purpose – have a good night’s rest instead. ^^rlpd

Communicate Your Way Through Those Conflicts

Communicate Your Way Through Those Conflicts

Being in a relationship is pretty challenging. May it be between friends, family, marriages, or even acquaintances; it takes a lot of time, effort and dedication to make it work out right.

Add in the stress of spending tons of time together, making the proper decisions for the benefit of all parties involved etc. breeds a lot of potential for conflict. After all, having to think about the satisfaction of each party’s needs and wants is crucial to any relationship’s survival.

Here are five (5) ways to make your relationships lighter and easier:

High-Five

Measuring your thoughts.

Open communication is the key to solving any kind of conflict in a relationship. In fact, saying the right words at the right time helps avoid conflict from the start.

Confusion about another person’s wants and needs may be avoided by clearly exchanging ideas and clarifying each other’s expectations. Since conflict is bound to eventually rear its ugly head, it would be pretty tough to get your idea across if you start yelling, interrupting one another, or lying to each other.

Rationalize your ideas. Express them in a simple and precise manner. Letting emotions rule your thoughts would probably make you end up wishing for a rewind – which you don’t get in real life.

Tackle the core problem.

More often than not, people argue about trivial issues that are not even related to the main cause of the conflict itself. Getting into mundane arguments where you nitpick each other only worsens the whole situation.

Sit back and think about what is really going on for a minute or two. Eventually, you would realize that the problem is not his/her snoring, keeping the seat up or constant nagging. It’s really something else.

The only way to grow in the relationship is to directly tackle what is truly bothering you. Go straight to the point, express yourself calm, stern manner. It might be difficult at first, especially when you’re agitated, but practice makes perfect.

Follow the Communication Cycle.

The cycle of any conversation is easy – one talks and the other pays attention. Or at least that’s how it’s supposed to go.

Your listening skills are important in resolving conflict. The problem starts at the moment the other feels that his/her words are falling on deaf ears. Sincere and complete listening allows you to contemplate what he/she has said and give appropriate responses to his/her statements. When someone truly feels that he/she is being heard, the conversation would sail more smoothly.

Avoid frustration.

People are persistent and impulsive when they have strong feelings about something. In any relationship, no one is ever a hundred percent right or wrong.

Learn the art of compromise. There are certain degrees to being correct or mistaken about whatever you are arguing about. Sharing the ups and downs of a subject will lighten the mood of the situation and can make the both of you have a better idea of how to deal with the issues at hand.

Tell him/her what you are willing to give up, what you are not and then explain why. This will allow you to meet half way. Working together is the key to making the relationship progress, and the chance of conflict decreases.

Manage expectations.

Setting the bar too high for your colleagues or partner inevitably causes pressure.

Lowering your expectations for someone does not mean that he/she is not capable of achieving what you can, nor does it mean that you should do all the ‘work’ in the relationship. They still have to pitch in to make the relationship survive.

It’s just that the expectations you set for yourself may not be as easy to reach for others. Knowing this is already a big step towards a successful relationship. Bear in mind that you are different from other people, that you are capable of things they are not, and that they are capable of things you are not.

If there’s one thing you need to remember, it’s this: listen with your heart and speak with your mind. You’ll find that it works all the time! ^^vrlpd

Four Baby Steps to Help Drop Big Flab

eas

4 easy steps

The minute you think you deserve a little treat to reward yourself for sticking to your diet regimen, that’s when your diet starts to END.

So how do you keep the pounds off and your diet intact? Here are four simple but highly effective baby steps to help you do just that:

Plan before you purchase

When you forget to stock up on the salty chips and sweet chocolates you’d want to indulge in, stare at that empty pantry and ask yourself: if I’m going to have to get up and shop, why not shop healthy?

Instead of restocking the pantry with unhealthy grub, grab a few cereal bars, whole wheat bread or low-cal snacks instead. Take some time to stroll around the grocery and check out all the foods. This will let you find healthier alternatives you might never see before. Just steer clear of sugary and salty foods along the way, of course.

Maximize your movement

After stocking up on some foods, you can now sit down in front of the television and enjoy your favorite show.

But don’t just stay stagnant during the whole time – these are opportunities for small bouts of exercise. Do some jumping jacks, simple dance moves or crunches, this burns additional calories and helps you refrain from senselessly munching away. If you’ve got a biking or pedaling machine at home, then you can position your TV in front of you and pedal away while you’re at it.

Feast on more fiber

After a hard day’s work, we usually look forward to dinner. The problem here is that many people eat a lot during dinner despite the fact that they’ll be sleeping instead of moving around.

This is the perfect time to gorge on veggies. By adding more vegetables to the dinner plate, you feel full so quickly that there is no more room for neither salty nor super-rich desserts. This is because the fiber in vegetables stays in the gut longer, therefore keeping you filled up for a longer time. This helps you skip those unnecessary (and fattening) midnight snacks.

Allocate some alternatives

Speaking of midnight snacks, you may have some other bad habits that you need to kill off as well.

Used to having midnight snacks before sleeping? A glass of milk will do the trick just fine. Love beer? Drink it in moderation to avoid the infamous beer belly. Need ice cream to beat stress? Go to the gym and punch a sandbag instead. If you have a habit that feeds your weight, find an alternative that gives the same effect but doesn’t add to your weight.

Keep all these tips in mind and you’ll lose those extra pounds in no time at all! ^^vrlpd

Why The Hassle of Breakfast Is Worth It

dontskipbreakfast

breakfast

The ‘gravitational pull’ in the morning is at its peak, especially when your bed is pulling you down nice and tight. Every ounce of sleep is especially important for those who have to start their day early, which is why some find themselves tempted to just skip breakfast and just grab a few more winks instead.

Miss out on breakfast, however, and you could end up losing more than you think.

Healthy carbohydrates from whole grain cereals and whole-wheat breads provide the glucose that fuels the brain and stabilizes your blood sugar in the morning, thereby increasing mental alertness and concentration. Skipping the first source of these carbs will definitely make you feel sluggish, unfocused and generally lousy at work or school.

A balanced breakfast should also be rich in fiber as this will make you feel fuller for a longer time. Since fiber does not easily get digested, you would not feel a stronger and more urgent need to eat just a few hours after eating. Whole-wheat and whole-grain are key words here.

Starting the day with a sugar-filled breakfast, however, would merely cause your blood sugar to quickly increase. This will boost your energy alright, but you will find yourself suddenly crashing during the day – effectively leaving you exhausted even before lunch break rolls around the corner.

So grab a bowl of sugar-free, whole-grain cereal, throw in some fruits in the mix, fill the bowl up with low fat milk and savor the goodness of a healthy and waist-friendly breakfast. Fight that gravitational pull in the morning and prepare something that would meet your recommended daily dose of fiber and vitamin C.

Trust me – you’ll be thankful for it in the long run! ^^vrlpd
